Paramilitary men arrested for alleged abduction, slaying of Thenmaraadchi woman

Three persons including a Sri Lankan military operated Civil Defence Force (CDF) paramilitary person and an alleged EPDP man, have been detained by SL Police in Thenmaraadchi on suspicion of abduction, alleged rape and slaying of 28-year-old Atputhamalar Subramaniyam from Thanangilappu, who was reported missing since November 13 and later found dead near a Sri Lanka Army bund on 25 January 2012. Women rights groups in the peninsula have urged global watchdogs to follow the conduct of SL Police in the investigations on the detained suspects.

SRI LANKA: The government's abduction industry exposed- Asian Human rights Commission

In one of the most shameful episodes ever to be revealed the Sri Lankan government's involvement in the 'abduction industry' was exposed last night (April 9) when the government took action to deport Premakumar Gunarathnam alias Ratnayake Mudiyanselage Dayalal who was abducted on April 6, 2012. This abduction brought immediately reactions from the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP), human rights organisations and the Australian government. The Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Gotabaya Rajapakse initially declared that he was unaware of any such abduction. The Director General of the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS), Lakshman Hulugalle, previous stated to the BBC that there was no reason for the government to arrest Mr. Gunarathnam and Ms. Dimuthu Attigala. Then, even shortly before the deportation Gotabaya Rajapakse told the media that Mr. Gunarathnam would be charged in many cases.

Australian citizen Gunaratnam deported from Sri Lanka

The wife of a missing Australian-Sri Lankan dual citizen says her husband is on his way back to Australia after being deported from Colombo.  The family of 42-year-old Sydney man Kumar Gunarathnam claimed he was abducted over the weekend by Sri Lankan military intelligence for his political activities.
